Mission

The mission of Zimbabwe Newport Volunteering Association is to empower young people and their communities of Mufakose, Harare, Zimbabwe and Newport, Wales, United Kingdom. The Charity run by volunteers & trustees works to fulfil the mission through the two strategies:

1.Twinning and community linking of Newport, United Kingdom and Mufakose, Zimbabwe communities through exchange visits.

2. Providing youth provision to vulnerable & disadvantaged young people of Mufakose and Newport, Wales, United Kingdom through providing activities which alleviate poverty while creating employment, volunteering and educational/training opportunities:

Key Activities in Wales:

  • Since 2006 organized 33 family fun day outs & Football tournaments which bring communities together.

  • Organizers of Africa Day, 8 events, 9 Refuge week events & 6 Black History Month’s talks, 12 drama & arts activities since 2010.

  • Delivering BME youth provision involving detached, outreach work & club based, engaged more than 2000 young people since 2006.

  • Participation in 14 Carnival/Festival processions/parades, since 2010.

  • Providing Coach Education training to 38 sports coach volunteers through partners such as FAW, Newport Live, and NGBs & Newport County FC, since 2006.

  • Running food bank as Covid-19 emergency response supporting more than 500 families.

  • Providing sports and physical activities to vulnerable communities of Newport, Wales, engaged more than 2500 participants since 2006.

  • Worked with 36 partners & attended 48 multi-agency meetings/workshops/trainings.

Key Activities in Zimbabwe:

  • Organising sports festivals & football tournaments, engaged 5000 young people since 2010.

  • Community regeneration of repairing 3 community centres and their sports facilities.

  • Community grass roots sport coaching – trained 23 volunteers and 20 teachers.

  • Raising awareness of Substance Misuse, HIV/AIDS, and Malaria & Cholera through sports activities and drama/arts – 18 workshops.

  • Youth Exchange visits between Zimbabwe and Wales, United Kingdom – 1 in 2014.

  • Running food bank (delivered 1800 food hampers) and 10 kitchens (centres) feeding 1000 children with porridge as emergency response to help people during crisis.

  • Worked with 18 local partners and 9 International NGOs.
